I was at a crossroads when I had to make an important decision in Grade Four of my primary school years. At that time, I was 9 or 10 years old, and my school track team send me an invitation to practice 100 and 200meter dashes.
There were a couple of reasons stimulating me to join the school track team. Firstly, I could always get first at earlier 100 and 200meter races; therefore, my school team coach would focus on training me if I agreed to join the team. Secondly, a number of track competitions are usually held at my hometown; therefore, distinct advantages will be secured for my application to top junior middle schools if I am fortunately, won a medal at those high-level competitions.
But my parents explicated some disadvantages for me to join the school track team, almost disagree with me with my original decision. Firstly, lots of time would be spent on practicing; but since I am a fairly slow learner, they were worried about possible negative influences on my upcoming middle school study. Secondly, my asthma may occur in winter. In the end, I still followed my heart and agreed to join the school track team.
To my amazement, after years’ practice, I did not feel uncomfortable no matter in summer or in winter. In those past two years, my asthma turned to be eventually cured and I won several medals; among other major benefits, I found myself able to easily and quickly concentrate on my homework.
In the end, I successfully passed the interviews when I applied for several key domestic junior middle schools. I want to say that practicing this tract sport developed my good habit of persistence; I wish I could keep on running in my daily life.
